Because so many RIGGS in the United States have received bravery awards, this page currently has to be confined to known recipients of the highest awards only, the Distinguished Flying Cross and above - no records have been found to date for those awarded the Bronze Star. It is hoped that recipients of other awards, and their descendants, will understand this is not intended to diminish in any way the acts of bravery recognised by those awards, merely a practical compromise.

Individuals are listed in order of precedence of their awards, which are denoted by post-nominal abbreviations (those with the highest awards documented first). Where an award was made to more than one individual, they are listed in rank and/or date order. In some cases, the citation describing the reason for the award can be found on a page elsewhere on the internet: if so, the post-nominal abbreviations for that award is linked to the relevant page.

A description and image of the decoration awarded can be found on the separate "Bravery and Distinguished Service Medals" page for the United States. If you take advantage of this facility, use your browser's back button to return to this page. Brief descriptions and images of the various campaign medals which the recipients might also have been entitled to wear aren't referred to below, but can be found on the separate "Campaign and other Service Medals" page for the United States in the section on "Some of those who enlisted".

Unless otherwise stated, the recipients were in the US Army and received the awards in World War Two.
