UNITED NATIONS MEDALS: The same medal is used for all United Nations Medals, but a different ribbon is authorized for each operation. From 13 October 1995, US personnel who are awarded the United Nations Medal may only wear the first medal and ribbon for which they qualify: subsequent awards of the same Medal for service in a different mission will be denoted by a bronze service star.


Medal

PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL
Awarded by the Philippine Commonwealth (now The Philippine Republic) for service in the liberation of the Philippine Islands from 17 October 1944 to 3 September 1945, in the initial landing operation on Leyte and adjoining islands. in any engagement against the enemy during the Philippine Liberation Campaign, or for service in the Philippine Islands or in ships in Philippine Waters for not less than 30 days during the period from 17 October 1944, to 2 September 1945. The Philippine Liberation Ribbon is classified as a foreign service award and is not authorized for wear on U.S. military unifrom.

UNITED NATIONS SERVICE MEDAL FOR KOREA
Awarded by the United Nations for service in support of the UN between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954 (one year after the armistice), and to those eligible for the US Korean Service Medal. The medal has a bar with the inscription "KOREA".

 


Medal

REPUBLIC OF KOREA WAR SERVICE MEDAL
Instituted in 1951 by the Republic of Korea for service by UN forces in Korean and adjacent waters area during the hostilities. However, American forces were prohibited by law from wearing foreign medals at the time, and were not invited to apply for it until June 2000.
Personnel must have served between the outbreak of war on 25 June 1950 and the armistice on 27 July 1953, been on permanent assignment or on temporary duty for 30 consecutive days or 60 non-consecutive days, and performed their duty either within the territorial limits of Korea, in the waters immediately adjacent, or in aerial flight over Korea participating in or in support of actual combat operations.
 


Medal

REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL
Awarded by the Government of the Republic of Vietnam to US Armed Forces personnel who served or contributed direct combat support in the Republic for six months between March 1961 and March 1973. The criteria established for the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (for Vietnam) or the Vietnam Service Medal must be met to qualify for this Medal. Six months service is not required for those wounded by hostile forces, killed in action or otherwise in line of duty, or captured by hostile forces.
