INTRODUCTION AND NOTABLE INDIVIDUALS

dividing line

In the U.S.A. in particular, considering the comparative rarity of the surname RIGGS, a very high proportion of persons bearing the surname have played a prominent role in religion, academic life, politics, and sport, and these will be noted in the other sections of this site (to follow). But an even higher proportion have played their part in serving in the armed forces of their country, to such an extent that this separate category has been devoted to them.

Some have risen to high rank, some have been been decorated, some have been wounded and some were killed or reported missing in action - all those that I've identified are documented in this category of the website.

Amongst them are even more notable individuals who have excelled themselves, in the high rank they've reached and/or the awards for gallantry with which they were decorated, and I've documented these specially. Unfortunately, space and time prevent me from including all those who could be singled out, and I apologise for those omissions. If, however, you are aware of any RIGGS comparable to those I've documented in terms of their rank or awards, please let me know the details so that I can consider adding them at a later date.
