William Riggs who married Mary SEARLE at Sidbury in 1747 was the progenitor of most of the RIGGS in the Plymouth area of Devon. However, as you will see below in the note on his parentage, he could be one of three William Riggs, all baptised within an appropriate timescale.

There are others with the surname RIGGS associated with the Plymouth area, where no connection with William has yet been satisfactorily established. Their currently known details can be found under Other Families In Devon.

I must stress that the reconstructions I've carried out are provisional, based on the available information to date. As such, the information and the reconstructions may be subject to future correction in the light of new information emerging. Naturally, I welcome any feedback from the descendants of any of the RIGGS families included and, in particular, further information to re-inforce or re-adjust the relationships I've assumed, together with details of its sources.
